As the year changes, we return to our blog with an overview of our recent work. The past months have been particularly hectic, with finalising our first major publication, the preparation of new presentations, the chemical analysis of finds and laying the groundwork of a new museum exhibit focusing on our recent research. For now, we present you with a general overview of our recent and upcoming work; a more detailed report on our activities will follow shortly.
Publication: ΕΝΤΟΣ ΑΜΩΜΗΤΟΝ: An Argive-type shield from the Sanctuary of Oisyme
Dr. Yangos Chalazonitis, in collaboration with Drs Chaido Koukouli-Chrysanthaki and Dimitria Malamidou, has published an article in the Annual of the British School at Athens: an INT1-ranked peer-reviewed journal of Greek Archaeology. The article is available through Cambridge Core (final version) and the institutional repository of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (postprint version).
A low-quality 3d-scan of the shield-band presented in the article is currently being hosted on this site and can be found here [3d file removed, to comply with the new Greek legislation on photogrammetric representations of antiquities. Permission is being sought to upload a permanent, high-quality model on the site]. Better-quality versions will be made available shortly.

Presentations!
Dr. Yangos Chalazonitis participated in the 9th day on Belgian Archaeological Research in the Ancient Greek World (20 December 2018) with a paper titled “Servants of the Enyalius: Weapons and Poems of the Thasian Warriors”. He has also been invited to present his research in the GAG/PEGGS Seminar Series hosted by the School of Archeology of the University of Oxford on 7 February 2019. His paper will be titled: “Warriors, Gods and Graves: a Narrative of Weapons in the Thasian Region”. All are welcome!
Museum Exhibition
We are very pleased to report that our proposal for a museum exhibition in Kavala based on the conclusions of the Warriors on the Periphery project has been provisionally accepted and included into the general roadmap of the Ephorate of Antiquities for the year 2019! We will be posting news and updates on our progress – for now, our priority is to determine the viability of such an exhibition, compile a detailed list of finds that will be included and determine the degree of collaboration with other services.
Chemical Analyses
The chemical analysis of finds from Oisyme, Galepsos and Aidonochori are planned to take place in the month of April. We will be hosted by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Kavala in late March, to collect the necessary samples; we will be then conducting the SEM / EDX analysis of said samples in NCSR “Demokritos”, in Athens.
